Urvina Bay - Isabela Island
Urvina Bay - Land Excursion
When we landed at Urvina Bay on Isabela Island the naturalist told us to be careful because it looked like a turtle nesting area just a few feet off the beach. Our group all tip-toed around the indentation. We then carefully stayed on the path around the island, often our way blocked by some gorgeously colorful land iguana. Everyone in the group posing a little behind the biggest ones that were smack dab in the middle of the path, like we were all trying to get in the background of some popular celebrity. The iguanas ignored us as much as I expect a celebrity would. We headed back towards our boats, admiring the birds, some of Darwin’s finches, and coming across several tortoises. Between the trails that the tails of the iguana leave, and the size and speed of the tortoises, there is a lot of wildlife to find.
Getting back to the beach, we tiptoed around the same nest, only to have young guests from another boat visiting stumble straight through the nest area. They were absolutely oblivious. And the young kids in the group just wanted to play in the water. It made us appreciate our group of fellow nature nerds more, and the role of the naturalists.
