Mallorca Bike Camp Days 1-3
Day 1: Mirador de la Victoria Climb
A perfect way to kick off our exciting week of cycling adventures, today we enjoyed an easy day designed to shake off the dust from our legs and get us in the rhythm. Jeff discovered a delightful, scenic short route that led us straight to the stunning Mirador de la Victoria climb. The scenery was absolutely breathtaking, and despite it being a brief ride, the punchy climb truly packed a thrilling punch! The panoramic view from the top was definitely worth every single pedal stroke, leaving us feeling energized and eager for the many adventures that lie ahead. Here’s to the start of an exhilarating week on two wheels and all the amazing experiences waiting to unfold!
Day 2: Petra
The first day’s ride with the entire group set an exhilarating tone (aka they killed me, in retrospect) for the adventure. As we pedaled along, the steady pace line felt almost rhythmic, the camaraderie palpable in the air. Even though the roads looked flat, as you are pedaling, the undulations reveal themselves. The sun was shining brilliantly as we took a well-deserved break in Petra for lunch, where laughter flowed just as freely as the refreshing drinks. As we ventured out of Petra, our journey took a surprising turn (at least for me) when we encountered another hidden climb, one that tested my limits and showcased the breathtaking beauty of the surrounding landscape. Although I was a bit slower on the ascent, I found comfort knowing that the stronger guys had paused at the collection point, patiently awaiting my arrival. Each peddle was a reminder that adventure is often found in the unexpected, and I couldn’t help but feel gratitude for this shared experience.
Day 3: Cap de Formentor Climb
Today, we set out on an exhilarating ride, splitting into two groups. My group, consisting of myself, Keith, his wife BJ, and my buddy Jeff set off at a different pace, enjoying our ride and the countryside. We tackled the winding roads with the sun shining bright. Although we were informed that this is typically the ride reserved for the last day, we couldn’t resist seizing the moment. With the weather forecast looking uncertain for the upcoming days, we took advantage of the clear skies.
The highlight of our first three days was undoubtedly the Cap de Formentor climb. As we approached the base, the sight of the long, steep ascent to the viewing point filled us with both excitement and trepidation. This initial climb was only the beginning; as we crested the top, we faced a thrilling combination of winding descents and more steep declines. Finally, we reached the end of the road at the iconic Cap Formentor lighthouse, its beauty making all the effort worthwhile. By this point, the parking was chaos—every space was taken, with cars waiting in line or squeezed along the narrow road. The ride back proved to be equally challenging, testing our determination one last time. I've included the profile and route for my riding friends to show just how demanding this adventure was! The camaraderie was felt in every laugh and every shared glance as we navigated the breathtaking landscape, making today one for the books!
Cap Formentor Cycling Route (for the cycling geeks)
To help you experience the stunning Cap Formentor, the northernmost point of Mallorca, on a challenging 20-kilometer bike ride, I am adding the climb profile and map. This route features high cliffs, beautiful landscapes, and amazing coastal views with steep hills, ideal for skilled cyclists. The climb starts in Port de Pollença with a gentle ride along the coast before climbing to the lighthouse. You get panoramic views at Mirador Es Colomer, and end at Cap Formentor, where you can relax at the lighthouse and enjoy the beautiful Mediterranean scenery, followed by a return trip.
Lunch at Tolo’s
Tolo’s has long been the go-to meeting spot for cycling enthusiasts on Mallorca. You can grab lunch on the seafront terrace with a view of the Mediterranean. As you give your legs a break, and fuel back up, there’s a ton of cycling memorabilia to wander around and admire. After conquering the challenging Cap de Formentor climb, we found solace in Tolo’s inviting atmosphere, where a delicious lunch (and cold beer) awaited. Just one of the places you’ve gotta see for yourself. Like being in Munich, you have to stop at the Hofbrauhaus.
